UNIT 1
READING 1: TEENS UNDER PRESSURE
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- read for general ideas and specific information about some pressures of teenagers.
- talk about their activities at school and at home.
- give some advice when their friends are under pressure.
- guess the meaning of words in context.
II. Teaching materials: Motivate level 3 (Student’s book)
III. Teaching aids: Handout, Slides, Poll, game on wordwall, padlet link for homework, A3 Paper.
IV. Teaching methods: Communicative Language Teaching, Total physical response
V. Anticipated problems:
- Students may have problems understanding some vocabulary items about school pressure and some activities.
Solutions: Give Ss more support in addition to the given context, organise pairwork and group work activities.
- Students may not catch up with the lesson because there will be many tasks and activities during class.
Solutions: Send Ss a picture version of the reading handouts at the beginning of the class and at some activities/games in class. Also, when doing the tasks, teacher asks Ss about what they should do first and the numbers of the questions they have to answer. This will help them stay focus on the lessons.

Pre- reading 15 mins | Warm-up: Group drawing - Divide Ss into groups of 4. Ask Ss to create a picture on a paper (A3) using their imagination. This picture needs to show a free-time activity that they always do at school or at home. - Give Ss 5 minutes to discuss in groups and create their poster. - Invite the group representatives to introduce their posters in 30 seconds. Give feedback. |

Introduction: - Say “Today, we are going to find out about some teenagers’ problems related to their activities at school and at home. We are going to read the article of some teenagers’ views to see why they have to be under pressure.” |

Lead-in: - Introduce the guiding question. Say: Now, we are going to read the text. When you read, consider the following titles: a. Teenagers are worried about school. b. Teenagers are stressed because they do too many activities. Find out the most suitable title for the text. |

While- reading 25 mins | Task 1: Read for gist - Let Ss read the text silently in 3 minutes. (Skimming) - Ask the Ss to discuss in pairs, read the title of the text and choose the best title for the text. - Invite the whole class to share their answers in the poll. Show the correct answer to the whole class. Answer: B. Teenagers are stressed because they do too many activities. - Ask Ss how many paragraphs there are and find out the content of each paragraph. Answer: There are 4 paragraphs. Par 1: Stressed parents (Imagine a busy lifestyle of your parents) Par 2: Busy teenagers (Teenagers nowadays have a lot of things to do) Par 3: A teenager talks (A teenager shares her feelings about their daily life) Par 4: Advice (The writer gives some advice) -Ask each S read each paragraph out loud. |
