Lesson 1.1: (p. 14): New words + Listening
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge and skills:
By the end of this lesson, students will gain the following:
- Vocabulary: gain vocabulary items about school subjects, including history, P.E (Physical Education), I.T (Information Technology), music, geography, literature, physics, biology, favorite (adj.)
- Structure: Ask and answer about favorite subjects with the questions – What’s your favorite subject? – What subject do you like best? – I like …… / My favorite subject is …
à Students can use the knowledge to talk about subjects they like and dislike at school, use some sentences / phrases to pass turn to someone after finishing speaking and listen for gist and details about school subjects.
2. Competencies:
- Students are able to use the knowledge to complete the exercise, practice language aspects in communicative situation.
- They will raise their motivations and interests in learning English as a foreign language
- They will also develop communicative and team-working skills through learning activities and illustrate problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through learning activities
3. Qualities:
- They are active to broaden and percept the knowledge.
- They will have good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work and cooperative learning.
- They can establish responsive and independent characteristics to be a life-long learner
II. Teaching aids:
- Teacher’s aids: student’s book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, IWB software, projector/interactive whiteboard/TV.
- Students’ aids: Student’s book, notebook, workbook.
III. Procedures:

-T divides class into 6 groups and give each groups handouts - Ss take the handouts - T guides Ss to play the game: each group has to finish the crossword as quickly as possible. - Ss listen, sit in groups and play the game. - The group who finishes the game first will get plus marks. - T gives feedback, then links to the theme: subjects
