Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED
Subject: English - classes: 7A
Allotted time: one period
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Knowledge:
+ Vocabulary:
- An overview about the topic Traffic.
- Vocabulary to talk about means of transport.
+ Grammar: - question words and conjunctions in compound sentences (but ,and ,so)
2. Competence:
- Develop communication skills and cultural awareness
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork
- Actively join in class activities
3. Quality/ behavior:
- Develop awareness of travelling in town/city
- Be concerned to the local traffice
II. TEACHING AIDS:
- Teacher: Text book, laptop, loudspeaker, interactive board…
- Students: Text books, studying equipment….
- Method: CLT; group works; individual ……
III. PROCEDURE:
1. ACTIVITY 1: WARM UP & INTRODUCTION ( 5’)
a. Aims:
- To activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit
- To enhance students’ skills of cooperating with team mates
b. Content: To have some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to inspire Ss to warm up to the subject and new lesson.
c. Outcome: Sts are ready for the new lesson
d. Organisation: Miming game
* Teacher gives instructions
** In groups, Ss
- One of the students in the group go to the board.
- Teacher secretly shows 1 picture of a mean of transport to that student. He/She has to mime the picture and the other has to guess. Of course the other groups will also be allowed to guess.
- Take turns go to the board until finish all the pictures.
*** Teacher checks and corrects if Ss pronounce the words incorrectly.
2. ACTIVITY 2: KNOWLEGDE FORMATION ACTIVITIES/ PRESENTATION/ NEW LESSON ( 10’)
a. Aims:
- To introduce the vocabulary appearing in the text.
- To help students well-prepared for the listening and reading tasks.
b. Content: Learn some new words. Read the conversation and find out new words.
c. Outcome: Know more new words. Understanding the topic of the lesson, grammar points…
d. Organisation : Teacher’s instructions..
- Teacher introduces the vocabulary by:
+ providing the pronunciation of the words.
+ providing the definition of the words.
- cycle (v) /ˈsaɪkl/: đạp xe [picture]
- traffic jam (n.phr.) /ˈtræfɪk dʒæm/: tắc đường [picture]
- cross the road (v.phr.) /krɒs ðə rəʊd/: băng qua đường [miming]
- rush hour (n.phr.) /ˈrʌʃ aʊə(r)/: giờ cao điểm [explanation: time of the day usually has traffic jam]
+ Checks vocabulary: ROR
* Teacher asks Ss to look at the picture (p.73), answer the question:
- Where are they? - What are they talking about?

- T plays the tape for the sts to listen and read.
3. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE ACTIVITIES (20’)
Exercise 2:
a. Aim: To help Ss understand the main idea of the text.
b. Content: Read the conversation again and choose the correct answer.
