PERIOD 1, 2, 3: REVISION OF UNIT 1: MY NEW SCHOOL
I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson students’ll be able to:
- Review vocabulary of the topic: My new school.
- Use present simple tense correctly.
- Use adverbs of frequency correctly.
- Practice doing some exercises well.
*Good and excellent students can do difficult exercises of present simple tense & adverbs of frequency well.
II. Language knowledge:
- Vocabulary: Vocabulary related to the topic “My new school”.
- Grammar: Present simple tense, adverbs of frequency.
III. Procedures:
Period 1
1. Check up/ Warm up (5’): Game: Secret gift box
- T devides class into 4 groups
- T explains the rule of the game: There are 10 secret gift boxes, each box contains a question/ task with related to the vocabulary and grammar of unit 1.
- Ss in turns choose randomly one box they like and if they give the correct answer, they can open the gift box to receive point.
- The group who has more points will be the winner.
2. Revision 1: Present simple tense (20’):
- T reviews present simple tense for Ss
a. Form:
- T asks one student to write the form of present simple tense on the board.
- T and other students check and comment.
- T shows the form of present on TV/ active board and asks Ss to copy on their notebook.
* With tobe: is/am/are
(+): | S + is/are/am + O | (I am a student) |
(-): | S + is/are/am + not + O | (I am not a student) |
(?): | Is/ Are/ Am + S + O? - Yes, S + is/are/am - No, S + is/are/am + not | (Are you a student?) |
* With ordinary verb:
(+): | I/ you/we/they/Ns + V(inf) + O (eg: I often go to school by bike) |
He/she/It/N(số ít) + V-s/es + O (eg: she often gets up at 6 o’clock) | |

*Note: Rules when adding “s/es”:
1. Verbs that end in letters: O, Z, X, SH, CH, S, when going with singular subjects, we add "_es" to the end of the verb.
Eg: go – goes; watch – watches; finish – finishes…
2. Verbs that end in letter “y”:
+ Case 1: before "y" is a vowel (u,e,o,a,i) => we keep "y" and then add "s".
(eg: say – says, stay – stays)
+ Case 2: before "y" is a consonant => we change "y" into "i" and then add "es"
(eg: study – studies)
b. Usages:
- T calls some Ss to retell the usages of present simple and give example.
