Lesson 1: Getting started
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
a. Vocabulary: Means of transport
b. Structure: Past simple tense
2. Attributes: patience, honestly, diligence
3. Competence development orientation:
- General competences: Linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence.
- Specific competences: - Know some words, phrases related to traffic topic. The usage of “How” to ask about means of transport.

*Warm up. + Lead in + Procedure T: introduce the topic “ Traffic” T: Ask: How/ By what means do you go to school every day? On foot? By bicycle? By bus? On your parents’ motorbike… - What means of transport is faster? What mean is safer? What means do you like most?Why? - What can you see on the way to school every day? 2.1. Activity 1. Listen and read + Ss will be able to interact and use lexical items about topic traffic + Procedure. T: ask Ss to look at the title/ the picture ad guess what the conversation between Mai and Oanh - Who are Mai and Oanh? - What may they talk about? T: Play the recording. Ss listen and read. T explains some words in the dialogue Ss: work independently to choose the correct answer to the questions. T checks their answers, and give explaination if necessary. T: ask Ss to work in pairs. T: let them check the answers in pairs, then give the keys. If there’s time, call some pairs to read the questions and give answers.
T: Tell Ss to refer back to the conversation to find the phrases. Ss practise saying them together (T plays the recording again if necessary). Explain the meaning to the Ss,then give some examples.
T: Ask Ss to role-player the short conversations in pairs before creating their short role-plays. More able Ss can try to extend the conversation.
2.2. Activity 2. Write the name of means of transport. + Ss know more the words about means of transport and the usage of “How” to ask about means of transport. + Procedure Ss: work in pairs and write the means of transport under the right pictures. T: let Ss read each word correctly. Check and correct their pronunciation.
Ss: work individually to do the task, and write their answers in their notebooks. T: check their answers.
